TeamWork40 finishes fourth in Transat Jacques Vabre Class40

Bertrand Delesne and Justine Mettraux (Switzerland), on TeamWork40, have finished fourth in the Class40 of the 13th edition of the Transat Jacques Vabre after crossing the finish line in the Bay of All Saints in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at 13:22:46 (UTC), 18 days, 00 hours 47 minutes and 46 seconds after leaving Le Havre, Normandy, France.

TeamWork40 covered the theoretical course of 4,350 nautical miles at an average speed of 10.06 knots but actually sailed 4,502 nautical miles at an average speed of 10.40 knots. It finished 14 hours, 03 minutes and 31 seconds behind the winner, V and B.

TeamWork40, one of the contenders from the start, briefly caught the runaway group of three, making up nealry 80 miles, after they became stuck in the Doldrums in the early hours of Friday, November 17. For a time the front four were separated by just 5-10 miles, but Teamwork40 could not keep pace in the tradewinds.

But in the race-within-a-race, Teamwork40 finished second of the Mach 2 generation Manuard-designed boats (which occupied the top 4 places in the Class40) behind Imerys Clean Energy. The two French boats at the top of the podium are both Mach 3 Manuard boats, which proved themselves to be 1-1.5 knots faster when reaching and also had advantage downwind.
