“We’ve had a nice birthday party here and now it’s a bit chilly and a bit rainy, but a good 24 hours behind us. We discovered a problem with the mainsail last night at about 03:00 and my wife, who is the manager of this project is sending you a mail about it. That explains why we’re going on not such a good route tactically. But we have to find a place where there’s not so much wind, so we can take the mainsail down and start repairing it. It’s like a delaminating hole. It’s not so serious but we have to try to repair it to prevent it becoming more serious. We’re trying to go as south as possible now when we’ve passed Ushant and should in five hours have ten knots of winds. Mikey (co-skipper, Michael Ferguson (Ireland)) is good and it was a nice surprise when he unpacked my wife’s birthday cake.”
