PIT STOP IN MADEIRA FOR THE CLASS40 EQUIPE VOILE PARKINSON

PIT STOP IN MADEIRA FOR THE CLASS40 EQUIPE VOILE PARKINSON

On Friday, November 1, Florian Gueguen and Raphael Auffret (Equipe Voile Parkinson, Class40) contacted the race management of the Transat Jacques Vabre to inform them that the bracket for their hydrogenerator was broken. Even though they rescued the hydrogenerator, the support plate fell into the water, preventing any repairs at sea.

Without this second source of energy on board, all the instruments had to be switched off forcing the two skippers to alternate watches on the helm. The Class40 Equipe Voile Parkinsonis today making its way to the port of Quinta Do Lorde, located east of the island of Madeira, to make repairs as quickly as possible to the hydrogenator and refuel with diesel. The arrival in Madeira is scheduled for overnight from Sunday to Monday.

Though the repair should be fast, the rules of the Transat Jacques Vabre impose a minimum stop of 4 hours. Gueguen and Auffret do not intend to stay a minute longer so that they can keep up with the other competitors and continue their Atlantic crossing to Brazil.
